Heinkel P.1080

Near the end of Word War II, German aircraft manufacturer Heinkel designed this fighter which was to be powered by two ramjet engines. These are simple jet engines without moving parts – they depend on the air pessure caused by the plane's speed in order to work. That means that the plane cannot take off with these engines, because they don't work at low speeds. For this reason, the He P.1080 was to be equipped with four additional solid-fuel rockets to take off and gain the necessary speed for the ramjets to work.

X-Plane does not provide ramjet engines, so this model uses normal jet engines, but it has a JATO, so you can simulate the original take-off procedure.

The ACF file was originally designed by Will Sanchez (his version is available at the registry). I improved the shape, modified the cockpit instrumentation (no custom panel yet, sorry) and added new textures. Two color schemes are included: Plain green (see picture above) and camouflage (see picture on the left).

Note that this aircraft works only with X-Plane 6.00 or later.
