Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka

Japanese Kamikaze bomber, Model 11

The Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka was a Kamikaze plane – a manned flying bomb designed in 1944 to destroy allied ships in a suicidal attack. The Ohkas (code-named "Cherry Blossom") were carried to the target area by a modified Mitsubishi G4M bomber and dropped there. The pilot (locked in the cockpit so he had no chance to escape) would hold the aircraft in a fast glide until a target had been chosen. He would then ignite the rocket motor, push the aircraft over into a steep dive and ram it into the ship with its 1200 kg warhead. The Ohkas had little success (only one U.S. ship was sunk), mostly because in many cases the vulnerable carrier aircraft was shot down before reaching the target area.

The original version of this plane was made by Ueli Niggli. I optimized the shape and textures, corrected the weight and the engine specs and added a custom panel and a carriage for ground transport. The specs should be quite close to the original now.
